“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,” Ephesians 2:1 (NASB)

Colby, Kansas.

The sinful lost condition of people apart from Jesus Christ is certainly a situation that is not foreign to western Kansas, including the town of Colby where I and my family live. There are a good number of committed born again Christian people that live here and a number of evangelical churches of differing denominational shades and hues in the region. These Christian brethren are dearly loved in the Lord, people justified before God and saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, but still living here in this world with the responsibility before God to follow and live for the Lord Jesus Christ as He called us to do in Luke 9:23-25:

“And He was saying to them all, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?”

In Colby as in any community are also many, many people who do not have a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ – who do not trust in his shed blood on the cross as the payment before God for the penalty due for their sins. Many of these people have strong moral and ethical foundations, are valued law abiding citizens and in some cases leaders in the community, doing much to care for and help protect and provide for their families and their friends and neighbors. Regardless of these good works, without true faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for their eternal salvation, these people are not born again children of God, without the indwelling Holy Spirit to enable them to live lives that are not enslaved to sin. And Jesus said “…unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

John MacArthur talks about “Sin, and What to Do About It” in this article on the Grace to You Website: http://www.gty.org/resources.php?section=articles&aid=231163

(Quoting from the article) “To repent is to “turn away from all your transgressions” (Ezekiel 18:30). It means confessing and forsaking your iniquities (Proverbs 28:13), and completely hating your sin (2 Corinthians 7:11). If repentance stresses turning away from sin and self, believing emphasizes what to turn toward-“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved” (Acts 16:31).” Adapted from The Vanishing Conscience© 1995 by John MacArthur. We all need Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord – He is the answer to the our problem of sin and requisite judgement before a Holy God.

Selected Christian Teachers of God’s Grace & the Lordship of Jesus Christ

16 09 2007

My purpose in starting this website is to identify a number of online sources of biblical teaching regarding the grace of God and the lordship of Jesus Christ. Since my home is in northwest Kansas, my particular purpose is to support Christians and bible-believing churches in this part of the Great Plains.

The plan for this site is to regularly (2-3 times / week) “plum the depths” of biblical teaching from these various sites. One post might focus on Pastor John MacArthur’s teaching on the depravity of man, another Pastor Bob DeWaay’s exposition on end-times biblical teaching, and yet another on some aspect of the teaching of revered biblical teachers of the past such as Charles Spurgeon or Martyn Loyd-Jones.

You will find that the doctrinal orientation of these teachers is generally Calvinistic in regards to issues of salvation and dispensational in terms of understanding end-times prophecy. Astute bible students will find that not all of these teachers agree on all the areas of doctrine that will be discussed – particularly in regards to dispensational teachings about bible prophecy and the end times. But to the best of my discernment, these sites are consistent in regards to salvation by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Listed below are some of the online sources of bible teaching that will be highlighted on this website….

John MacArthur @ “Grace to You”: www.gty.org

Bob DeWaay @ “Critical Issues Commentary”: www.cicministry.org

Mark Dever @ “The 9 Marks”: www.9marks.org

Al Mohler, President – The Southern Bapist Theological Seminary: www.albertmohler.com

John Piper @ “Desiring God”: www.desiringgod.org

Gary Gilley @ Southern View Chapel: www.svchapel.org/Resources/Articles/index.asp

Monergism.com – a online source of biblical teaching with roots in Calvinism, focusing on the depravity of man and the role of the Holy Spirit in the regeneration of sinners in regards to their salvation: www.monergism.com

Well, that is a start. LORD, may You be honored by the information placed on this website, and may it be of benefit to whoever you lead to read it. God, may these sources of bible teaching lead myself and others to worship and honor you with our lives, and may we acknowledge and live in accordance with the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every public and private aspect of our lives. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
